Whilst wandering out in the Tallebudgera Valley last September, one of the landowners mentioned the new Bally MT Conservation Reserve (see earlier blog for more info) that was being amalgamated by the GCCC at the time. After gaining permission to walk through his property, I followed a steep 4wd track up to a small plateau below the main peak and took a few photos of the interesting and unusual geology I saw.

In late 1951, after investigating around Brisbane and South East Queensland, David Fleay selected the Tallebudgera estuary as a suitable site for a fauna reserve. The attraction of the site was, according to Fleay, the flood-free forested slopes and gullies, a splendid run off, koala fodder gums with koalas in residence, and the presence of fish, mammals and birds.

I first encountered the beautiful brahminy while walking around the ocean view track at Burleigh National Park around five years ago. One glimpse of their striking chestnut body, white head and chest with black wing tips had me wanting more.
