Coastal walks soothe the soul

Every year tourists flood to the Gold Coast drawn by glitzy Surfers Paradise and our golden beaches, but many are now taking the chance to experience our equally famous local natural beauty with a guided walking tour.

Ian Black of Geo-Nature Walks & Tours has lived on the Gold Coast since the 1960s and has always been a passionate lover of nature and the great outdoors.

“I’m a mad, keen surfer and have always loved nature,” says Ian. “But it was after I joined the Gold Coast Bushwalking Club that I developed an interest in local flora, fauna, history and geology.

“There’s so much to see and learn, and a walk in beautiful nature can set a person’s spirits for the whole day.”

Rebecca Marie, who joined Ian for one of his walks, agrees:

“We enjoyed a gorgeous morning with Ian on the Burleigh headland. Very informative and educational, a great way to get to know the land we live on and appreciate its beauty.”

Next stop for Rebecca is the Springbrook tour.

For Ian, Springbrook and surrounds offer a range of beautiful experiences for people of all ages and fitness levels. In fact, he believes a walk through the Gold Coast hinterland should be top of the list for anyone who visits.

“Springbrook not only has spectacular waterfalls and lovely bush walks, but the views across the Gold Coast are something everyone should experience.

“On our Experience Springbrook tours we also visit the Best of All Lookout and the Natural Arch. I explain all about the local flora and fauna, plus early-settler and indigenous history. There’s loads to learn and people love getting real information and accurate facts. This seems to be as important to them as it is to me.”

Geo-Nature also offers half and full day personalised tours for small groups to any of our World Heritage National Parks. Contact Ian on 5607 0752 to arrange your unique experience.
